Let us examine fearlessness. For a warrior mindset, we need to be fearless. As Swami Vivekanda pointed out, fear leads to all kinds of misery in this world.
Fear is the root cause of all the mental struggles and agonies. Fearlessness brings clarity to life. It brings courage to move ahead in life. .kalari train you to Become fearless.
Each practice in the Kalari brings about this fearless attitude. Pains and injuries don't bother us. It is the training for such an attitude.
Let the storm come or thunder rumble, we should stand steady and fight. That is the mental strength Kalari provides.
Next is awareness. Kalaripayattu is more than just martial arts. It has an equal spiritual element about our consciousness. It is a path for getting to know ourselves. Knowing ourselves is knowing all of creation. That is the most powerful knowledge we can attain.
knowledge is sharper than any weapon. Ignorance is cowardice. Knowledge is Power. Awareness will liberate you. Immortality comes through sharing this knowledge. That is how Buddha, Agasthya, Shankaracharya, Vivekananda Jesus Christ and other spiritual giants continue to live in us beyond time.
Martial arts have existed since the beginning of human culture. In India, especially southern India, Kalaripayattu is a lifestyle that was formed centuries ago. More than healthy physique it was meant to create a courageous society capable of withstanding crises. Agasthya is considered the creator Guru of Kalari. Agasthya as you might know is mentioned even in the Rig Veda. Kalaripayattu is considered the oldest martial arts form in the world. Around 2000 years of history is documented. Sangam literature works like Akam Paadal, Puram Paadal, Thirumurgatrupadai etc mention the word Kalari several times
The basic practices begin with Chuvadukal or steps with full body movements. Then we move onto Kaiporu or bare hands fighting. Further studies take us to weapons like Katara knife, kuruvadi and neduvadi sticks, kandakodali or axe to move into Sword and Shield and the unique flexible sword called Urumi. After this we get to Marma or pressure points study. It details the 108 marma sthanas or pressure points in the body. The warrior learns these in depth. From here we move onto Marma Chikitsa and Siddha Chikitsa treatment and healing systems. So it is a well rounded education. Kalaripayattu is the only martial arts form in the world with its own treatment and healing system. So it is a martial arts not just to protect the society but also for the health and wellness of the society. It is about caring for the people. That is unique to Kalaripayattu.
Kalaripayattu is also respected as the mother of all martial arts. The paramaguru of Zen Buddhism, Bodhi Dharman took this martial arts to Shaolin temples in the 5th century. He was a Pallava prince from south India. He wrote the works Yijin Jing, Sensai Jing which later became Shaolin Su, Kempo Karate, Kungfu, Karate, Silate and inspired many other martial arts.
Kalaripayattu was the pulse of Kerala that influenced the entire society. The defense, wellness and educational aspects of Kalari weaved lives together. It was the basis of strength and beauty. Strong fearless leaders emerged from this system. Martial arts Like Kalaripayattu are essential to create a fearless world of calm alert and aware minds.
